“I wasn’t sure if Open Doors organized this Community Café for our community, but I plan to continue participating in future events. In the past, my son’s school expressed concerns about his behavior, and I often felt unsure about how to support him. However, during this event, I connected with other families who are facing similar challenges. It was encouraging to hear their experiences and learn about the solutions they are exploring. This gave me a sense of hope and reassurance that I’m not alone. “

I’m truly grateful to be a part of the Open Doors community. They have supported me in many meaningful ways, including helping me prepare for my son’s IEP meetings, providing the resources I requested, and inviting me to participate in the Open Doors for Multicultural Families (ODMF) Parent Support Group (PSG) and Community Café events. “They said I wouldn’t make it. But I did.” For most of my life, I was underestimated. Teachers told me I’d never succeed, never go to college. With the support of programs like Kickstart, P2G, and the Lead Collective, I found my purpose and my people. They didn’t just see potential in me, they helped me see it in myself.
Today, I’m a high school graduate, enrolled at Highline College, and working toward my dream of transferring to the University of Washington. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and I know this is only the beginning.
