We are officially one month away from Under One Sky, our largest annual fundraiser and we can’t wait to celebrate with you. Tickets are selling quickly, and we encourage you to get yours now to show your support and join us for a powerful night of community, belonging, and joy.
This year, we’ve set an ambitious goal of raising $100,000 in critical funding, and thanks to early supporters, we’re already 30% of the way there. Your support now is essential.
If you aren’t able to attend, you can still make a donation today to help us reach our goal and sustain culturally responsive disability inclusion across our region.
🌟Announcing Our First 2026 Honoree: Community Advocate of The Year
The Community Advocate Award: This award recognizes a self‑advocate and/or parent advocate who has been a powerful voice for inclusion, connection, and empowerment. Their dedication to fostering supportive, culturally responsive spaces has helped create meaningful change for individuals with diverse languages, cultures, and disabilities. They inspire others and ensure that every family has a place of belonging.
We are proud to announce that this year’s honoree is:
🌟 Mahad Dahir

Mahad is a proud neurodivergent Somali American whose journey embodies the strength of self‑advocacy and culturally rooted community support. Through Open Doors for Multicultural Families’ Self‑Advocacy Leadership Training, Mahad found not only an outlet for his voice, but a platform to shape conversations, influence policy, and drive meaningful systems change.
His advocacy has taken him from the halls of the Washington State Capitol—where he has spoken countless times on critical issues—to stages across North America as a keynote speaker, inspiring audiences with his wisdom, resilience, and unwavering commitment to change.
Most notably, Mahad played a pivotal role in advocating for the Language Access Bill, vital legislation ensuring individuals from diverse linguistic backgrounds receive the support they need in the languages they speak. His voice was essential in bringing this vision to life.
And Mahad isn’t stopping there.
From his ongoing journey through post‑secondary education to earning his driver’s license, he is building his own success while paving the way for the next generation of leaders to thrive—as well as continuing to shatter barriers and society’s expectations of themselves.
Mahad’s story shows what’s possible when culturally relevant support and disability inclusion are centered. It’s why your support of Under One Sky matters so deeply.
