The Disability Champion Award recognizes an elected official who uses their platform to drive meaningful, systemic change for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Through bold policy initiatives, equitable funding priorities, and legislative leadership, our honorees help break down barriers and expand access to essential services, ensuring all individuals, across cultural and linguistic backgrounds, have opportunities to thrive.

Senator Yasmin Trudeau, who represents Washington’s 27th Legislative District, has been a transformative voice in advancing equity‑centered policy. As the first Muslim-American to serve in the Washington State Legislature and a leader shaped by lived experience, including navigating poverty, disability, foster care, and homelessness: Senator Trudeau brings a deep personal understanding of the systemic challenges so many families face.
